CHAN 2024 : Morocco Emerges Champions

They defeated Madagascar 3-2 in the final on Saturday August 30, 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya that was refereed by Cameroon’s Abdou Abdel Mefire.

The 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship has concluded with Morocco emerging champions. This was thanks to their victory over Madagascar 3-2 in a pulsating final at the Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday August 30, 2025. This is the third trophy of the Atlas Lions in the competition after their 2018 and 2020 victories. Star striker Oussama Lamlaoui was once again the difference, scoring twice including a spectacular 40-yard effort to finish as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals. The game was refereed by Abdou Abdel Mefire of Cameroon. At just 29 years old, Mefire was the youngest central referee at this year’s CHAN, underlining his rapid rise as one of the most promising officials on the continent. He showed composure and mastery during the final game of the competition that came with a lot of pressure. 
The victory in Nairobi earned Morocco the gold medal and USD 3.5-million prize money (close to FCFA 2 billion) while Madagascar’s gallant run ended in silver and a USD 1.2 million prize (over FCFA 800 million). Senegal clinche...
