South West :Effective Resumption

An improvement in attendance on the first day of school for the academic year has been recorded. Governor and top security officers visited some schools in Buea.

The 2025-2026 academic year has effectively kicked-off in the South West Region with a 4.7 increase this year on the number of leaners who attended classes on the on Monday 8, September in the secondary education sector. As far as Basic Education is concerned, reports show an impressive turn out in the Divisions with an 85 per cent presence of teachers.  
South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai and the Commanders of the Second Joint Military Region and the Second Gendarmerie Region, Brigadier Generals Tobie Gabriel Ngolo Ngomba and Ekongwese Divine Nnoko respectively visited some schools in Buea on September 8, to take the pause of the start of the academic year. Governor Okalia Bilai said the objective of the visit to schools was to reassure the education community and parents of the safety and security of schools by State authorities. In each of the schools visited, the Governor encouraged students on their academics urging them to work hard on their studies so as to guarantee a better future for themselves and the country. In all the schools visited, the Governor had an interactive session with the students as he sought to know what their ambitions are and what they hope to become in future. Bernard Okalia Bilai then advised the kids that only through hard work can they achieve their dreams. He equally sent a clarion call to parents to send their children to school because the State via administrative, defense and security authorities has taken necessary measures to ensure security.
