Fight Against Corruption : Denunciations On An Increase

Cameroon’s 2024 Anti-Corruption Status Report made public on August 27, 2025 indicates that the State suffered financial damages estimated at FCFA four billion sixty-one million.
The 2024 report on the state of corruption in Cameroon has been made public. The Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, Rev. Dr. Dieudonné Massi Gams presented the document to the public on August 27, 2025 in Yaounde. The report which highlights the significant involvement of administrations and courts in combating corruption in the country indicates that the State of Cameroon suffered financial damages estimated at FCFA four billion sixty-one million eight hundred and six thousand seven hundred and elevens francs. The conclusion is as a result of investigations carried out by CONAC, decisions by the Budget and Finance Disciplinary Board and rulings by the Special Criminal Court in the course of 2024.
Going by the report, a total of 10,250 denunciations were received last year, as compared to 7,548 complaints received in 2023, thus representing an increase of 39.37 per cent. It further states that the treatment of complaints lodged at the anti-corruption institution led to 44 Rapid Intervention Actions, two Anti-Corruption Clinics and 10 in-depth investigations conducted by members of the Coordination Committee. The document which is the outcome of 105 contributions from various stakeholders presents prevention mechanisms carried out by CONAC, administrative and legal sanctions against acts of corruption, asset recovery and institutional cooperation in the fight against the cankerworm.
On prevention activities, the report highlights that actions such as the setting up of toll-free numbers to facilitate denunciation, raising awareness amongst public officials and users of public services, training stakeholders on combating the ill, improving the working conditions of public officials and identifying and rewarding best workers in some institution, were carried out across the national territory.
