Fisheries Activities : Efforts intensified To Boost Fish Production

Fishing equipment worth over FCFA 495 million will be distributed in the days ahead to fish farmers.

Fishing activities will receive a boost in the coming weeks as government is relentless in efforts to increase production. Fish, it should be noted, remains one of Cameroon’s main imports and authorities are poised to reverse the trend especially within the framework of import-substitution drive of the government.  Minister Taiga of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries while opening the dual Board of Directors meetings dedicated to the examination and adoption of the 2024 management accounts of the Limbe Nautical Arts and Fisheries Institute (LINAFI) and that of Maritime Fisheries Development Authority (MIDEPECAM) in Limbe on August 29, 2025, challenged the two institutions to focus on solutions in order to surmount the challenges and strengthen financial stability. He urged the Boards to ensure that the strategies align with long term visions of the institutions-which are to increase fish production in the country. 
Speaking to reporters, the Managing Director of MIDEPECAM, Dr. Sammy Ako Tambi revealed that some fishing equipment comprising of fishing boats, outboard engines, nets and other fishing accessories worth about FCFA 495 million will be distributed to some 100 beneficiaries in the days ahead.
