North West : New Gendarmerie Legion Commander Takes Command

Colonel Zang Godfroy Marius has a daunting task to work for the return to peace, stability and development in the security crisis-affected North West Region.

The new Gendarmerie Legion Commander for the North West Region, Colonel Zang Godfroy Marius was on August 27, 2025 commissioned into his functions in a heavily-attended ceremony at the Command Post of the 5th Joint Military Region in Bamenda. In the presence of the North West Regional Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique and the Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo among others, the Commander of the 5th Joint National Gendarmerie Region, Brigadier General Housseini Djibo commissioned Colonel Zang Godfroy Marius into his functions.
Born on March 25, 1973 in Zoetele, Dja et Lobo Division of the South Region, Colonel Zang Godfroy was appointed Gendarmerie Legion Commander for the North West by President Paul Biya on August 12, 2025.  He takes over from Colonel Zambo Nguema Etienne who died in an accident and was buried this August 2, 2025. Before his new appointment, Colonel Zang was the Chief of Staff at the First Gendarmerie Region since February 2025.
The graduate from the Combined Services Military Academy (EMIA) as a Lieutenant in 2001 has a rich professional experience which he would be expected to make use of at the helm of the National Gendarmerie in the North West Region. In his installation speech, Brigadier General Housseini Djibo reminded Colonel Zang of the specificities of the North West Region.
