Fight Against Hate Speech : Bilingualism Commission Intensifies Crusade

The Secretary General of the institution, Dr. Chi Asafor was in Buea to that effect on August 27, 2025.

The National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism has taken measures to curb hate speech and xenophobia before, during and after the October 12, 2025, Presidential election in Cameroon. On May 14, 2025, it entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hwanala For Peace. The Secretary General of the Commission, Dr. Chi Asafor on August 27, 2025, visited the South West Region to see the work done so far in curbing hate speech and xenophobia. 
Dr. Chi Asafor said 2025 is a year that they thought will generate a lot of hate speech and xenophobia. “You must have realised that since two or three months, there have been a rise in hate speech and xenophobia in the media, social media and ordinary speeches. This is what pushed the Bilingualism Commission to task you to put special emphasize on hate speech and xenophobia during this electoral period. This country needs peace and harmony. It needs to preserve the social cohesion and unity that has defined our country for a long time,” Dr. Chi told Hwalana For Peace officials.
