Promoting Good Governance : Concertation With Civil Society Organisations

A one-day session urged the stakeholders to serve as a nexus between community members and governing authorities in order to ensure social cohesion and sustainable development.

The Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) for the South-West Region, Telelen Dorothy Atabong Motaze has called for a collaboration with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to enhance good governance, foster social cohesion, and promote peace in the region. The call was made during a concertation meeting held in Buea on September 4, 2025, bringing together prominent CSO leaders and various stakeholders.
In her opening statement, the Public Independent Conciliator emphasized that the session was a "conscious step towards pursuing engagement with Civil Society Actors on the way governance is practiced in our Region." She acknowledged the efforts of CSOs in raising public awareness about her office's mission but noted that these actions were "relatively timid." This gathering, she stated, was a crucial step to "explore existing avenues wherein acting in synergy, collective actions and efforts could positively impact local governance."
Held on the theme “The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator: In Synergy with Civil Society Organizations to Enhance Good Governance and Social Cohesion in the South West Region," Madam Motaze highlighted the pivotal role of CSOs in local governance, citing sections 40(1) and 41 of Law No. 2019/024, which allows individuals and associations to propose measures for development and improvement.
