Regional Councillors Election : Time For Files Compilation, Submission

With the electoral colleges convened on September 1, aspirants have till September 16 to deposit their files for the election that takes place on November 30, 2025.
It is now obvious that the election of Regional Councillors across the ten regions of the country will take place on November 30, 2025, following the Presidential decree of September 1, 2025 that convened the electoral colleges. With the convening of the electorate, aspirants have 15 days to submit their candidacy documents for scrutiny. “Candidatures shall within 15 days from the convening of the electorate, be made out in nomination papers in three copies, bearing the legalised signature of candidates and submitted at the council branch of Elections Cameroon against a receipt,” stipulates paragraph one of Section 181 of the Electoral Code. This means that contenders for the election of regional councillors have till September 16, 2025 to submit their candidacies at their respective ELECAM branch offices as prescribed by the law.
It is an election by indirect universal suffrage and the candidates are either delegates of divisions who are elected by municipal councillors and representatives of traditional rulers who are voted by an electoral college comprised of first, second and third class indigenous traditional rulers whose designation has been approved in accordance with the regulation in force. Going by the law, candidates representing divisions are nominated by political parties and the list of candidates representing traditional rulers is headed by candidates who are first-class or second class chiefs. That said, those interested are already brainstorming on constituting their files and subsequently submitting at the elections management organ. When contacted, the President of the North West House of Chief, Fon Yakum Kevin Teuvih whose mandate just like the others ends on December 22, 2025 (date of the holding of the session as of right which marks the beginning of a mandate) noted that they will follow the outlined legal procedure for constituting of files to be submitted at Elections Cameroon.
